Roman Hoza - baritone

Roman Hoza finished his studies at the Janáček's Academy of Performing Arts Brno and an internship at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He was a member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein Opera Studio in Düsseldorf / Duisburg, where he makes his guest performance also in the season 2016/2017. In 2019, Roman Hoza returned to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, again as Rossini's Dandini, and since the 2020/21 season he has been a permanent soloist in the opera.


 

Roman Hoza was born in 1990 in Zlin, Czech Republic. Besides his studies on Janacek Academy in Brno (with doc. Z. Šmukař) and Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna (with o.Univ.- Prof. M. Klaushofer) he also attended many masterclasses of world-known soloists or coaches such as C. Ludwig, L. Watson, H. Deutsch, J. P. Fouchécourt, T. Krause, A. Plachetka or D. Syrus.

In 2014 Roman Hoza participated in Salzburger Festspiele Young Singers Project as Dandini in Cenerentola for children audience. In the 2015/2016 season he was a member of the opera studio of Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg where he appeared on stage in many repertoire roles such as Morales, Silvano, Marullo, Papageno for kids, prince Afron and others.

In 2019, Roman Hoza returned to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, again as Rossini's Dandini, and since the 2020/21 season he has been a permanent soloist in the opera.
He is a regular guest in the National Theatre Prague (Mozart's Don Giovanni and Figaro, Donizetti's Mamma Agata or Rossini's Dandini), National Theatre Brno (Don Giovanni, Guglielmo /Cosí fan tutte, Marbuel/ Dvorak: Kate and the Devil, Rimbaud /Le Comte Ory, Belcore/Donizetti: Elisir d'amore or Jaufré Rudel/ Saariaho: L'Amour de loin) and National Moravia-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. As a guest he also cooperates with Opera National de Lyon or Göteborg Operan.

Roman Hoza participates at many significant international music festivals (IMF Prague Spring, International, IMF Dvořák's Prague, National Festival Smetana's Litomyšl, Concentus Moraviae and many others) and cooperates with leading chamber and symphonic orchestras.

He also focuses on chamber music (song cycles by Dvorak, Janacek, Mahler, Martinu, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann) as well as baroque music cooperating with leading baroque ensembles in the Czech Republic (Collegium 1704, Musica Florea, Ensemble Inégal or Czech Ensemble Baroque etc.).
Among his repertoire belongs for example the title role in Eugen Onegin, bass/baritone parts in Carmina Burana, The Messiah, Johannespassion, Paulus, Die Schöpfung, Dvorak's Te Deum and many more.
