Kateřina Kněžíková - soprano

Kateřina Kněžíková is a permanent cast member of the National Theatre in Prague and make guest appearances in the National Theatre Brno, National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava or Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. She is a laureate of the Classic Prague Awards 2018 for the best chamber performance and Thalia Award 2019 for extraordinary stage performance in the opera Julietta (B. Martinů) on the boards of the National Moravian-Silesian Theater.


Kateřina Kněžíková, born 1982 in Bohumín, graduated from the Prague Conservatory in 2007 and in 2010 she completed her university degree at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

She has won numerous competitions, including a prize at Antonín Dvořák's International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary. In 2018, she was, together with Kateřina Englichová, awarded the Classic Prague Award for the Best Chamber Performance of 2017 and she was nominated for the Thalia Award for the role of Adina in the production of L'elisir d'amore at the National Theatre in Brno.

In 2005, Kateřina Kněžíková made her debut at the National Theatre in Prague, where she has been a permanent cast member since 2006. Her operatic engagements include Mozart and bel canto roles such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Elvira, Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito), Despina (Cosí fan tutte), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Norina (Don Pasquale), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Marguerite (Faust) and many others.

She has made numerous guest appearances at the F. X. Šalda Theatre Liberec, J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, National Theatre Brno, Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, Theatre de Caen, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Theatre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels and Opéra de Dijon.

She has performed in productions of many acclaimed directors - D. Beneš, Karl-Ernst and Ursel Herrmann, J. Heřman, L. Keprtová, L. Moaty, J. Nekvasil, V. Věžník etc.
Her professional concert and operatic engagements have involved work with conductors such as S. Baudo, J. Bělohlávek, O. Caetani, P. Domingo, A. Fisch, H. M. Förster, J. Gaffigan, M. Guidarini, M. Honeck, J. Hrůša, R. Jindra, V. Luks, E. Mazzola, J. Nelson, T. Netopil, S. Rolli or E. Villaume and outstanding orchestras including BBC Symphony orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Collegium 1704, Czech Philharmonic, Hessischer Rundfunk Frankfurt am Main, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, PKF - Prague Philharmonia, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and many others.

In addition to performing opera and symphonic music, she also gives chamber and song recitals with David Švec and Kateřina Englichová.

She regularly appears at prestigious international festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad, including Anima Mundi Pisa, Dvořákova Praha International Music Festival, Leoš Janáček International Music Festival, Prague Spring International Music Festival, National Festival Smetana's Litomyšl, St. Venceslav Music Festival, Strings of Autumn, Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, Festival Rencontres Musicales de Vétzelay, Festival Baroque de Pontoise, Music Bridge Prague – Dresden, Uckermärkische Musikwochen, Tage Alte Musik Regensburg.

Her performances have been broadcast on the Czech Radio, television channel MEZZO and the Belgian radio station RTFB International. She has recorded Smetana's The Bartered Bride for HARMONIA MUNDI and her recording of Dove é amore é gelosia for OPUS ARTE DVD was awarded 'Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik'. She worked with Štefan Margita recording songs for his Christmas album "X MAS" in 2016 and recorded the oratorio of F. X. Richter La deposizione dalla Croce di Gesú Christo and with the Czech Ensemble Baroque.
In addition to performing opera and symphonic music, she also gives chamber and song recitals with David Švec and Kateřina Englichová.
